After five decades together as a band, Aerosmith has officially retired.

The news came after lead singer Steven Tyler suffered a vocal injury in September 2023, a few shows into the rock band's “Peace Out… Farewell Tour," forcing them to postpone the concerts until 2024.

On Friday, Aug. 2, Aerosmith released a statement via social media announcing the cancellation of the rest of its tour—along with its retirement.

"It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark caught flame and has been burning for over five decades," the message via Instagram began.

"Some of you have been with us since the beginning and all of you are the reason we made rock ‘n’ roll history. It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours," the band continued. "In every club, on every massive tour and at moments grand and private you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives. We’ve always wanted to blow your mind when performing."

That's when Aerosmith addressed Tyler's health, noting that his "voice is an instrument like no other." Although the 76-year-old has "spent months tirelessly working" on returning his voice to what it was before the injury, his bandmates have "seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side."

They added: "Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision - as a band of brothers - to retire from the touring stage."

Aerosmith shared they were "grateful beyond words" for fans looking forward to watching them tour one last time. They also thanked their crew and team before expressing gratitude to fans.

"A final thank you to you - the best fans on planet Earth," they concluded. "Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true."

Originally, Aerosmith's farewell tour was set to end in December. Those who purchased tickets via Ticketmaster will automatically receive a full refund, the band noted, adding that fans who bought tickets from third-party sites should reach out to the point of purchase for details.
