Formation and Early Years

5'nizza, formed in 2000 in Kharkiv, Ukraine, is an acoustic duo consisting of Serhii Babkin (guitar) and Andrii "Sun" Zaporozhets (vocals). The band's name, pronounced as "Pyatnitsa" in Russian, translates to "Friday" in English. They quickly gained recognition for their minimalistic style, blending reggae, Latin, rock, and hip hop into a distinctive folk sound. Despite not having the backing of major labels, 5'nizza attracted a cult following across Central and Eastern Europe, including in Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Poland, and Germany.

Rise to Popularity

The duo's bootlegged demo album "Unplugged," released in 2002, spread rapidly across CIS countries, garnering critical acclaim and a devoted fanbase. Their official debut album, "Pyatnitsa," produced in 2003, featured most songs from the "Unplugged" album. This was followed by their second album "O'5" in 2005, further solidifying their popularity. The singles "Winter" and "Soldier" from these albums saw significant radio play and resonated with a wide audience.

Disbandment and Solo Projects

In 2007, 5'nizza disbanded while recording their third album, citing artistic differences. However, the project was eventually completed by Zaporozhets as a solo release. During their hiatus, both Babkin and Zaporozhets pursued other musical projects. Babkin, a solo artist since 2004, released several albums, and Zaporozhets focused on his education in pediatrics.

Reunion and Recent Activities

In March 2015, Babkin and Zaporozhets announced their reunion, releasing the song "I Believe In You" in April, followed by other tracks like "Vperyod" and "Ale". The band performed various concerts, including a notable show in St. Petersburg in 2017, signifying their return as a strong musical force. The band's unique approach to music, characterized by a blend of various genres and a minimalistic style, continues to captivate audiences.
